Alright,
I recently purchased this hat for local Civil War reenactments, and for the fun of having it. I was excited to receive it, but it turned out to be less than I expected. The leatherette looks manufactured, and the strap looks as if it had been taped. The buttons and pin look like plastic. The inside does not look period, and the underside of the brim has green fabric. The wool looks rather nice, in contrast.
As a toy or gift for a child, I would say this is a good choice; it is inexpensive, and suitable enough for someone who’s occasion does not mandate authenticity. If I was using it for a Halloween costume, I likely would have kept it. However, for a reenactor, I would not recommend this product. It does not compare to a more functional, authentic hat.

|Civil War Cap,
This was a gift for a newbie Civil War buff. The price was right and we liked the fact that it came with the pin, where some higher priced, higher quality look-alikes did not. We felt the quality of the vinyl on the brim was a bit cheap looking. Not adjustable and ran a bit snug. However, the gift recipient loved it!
